worn out toys

A Mother’s Heartache

I wish there were muddy tracks on the floor,
And the door going shut with a slam.
I wish there were thumb marks all over the doors
And holes in my pots and pans.
I wish there were toys and tops to fix
And a broken window pane.
A little old wagon and a worn out sled out in the storm and rain.
I wish there were little stockings to mend.
A few little bumps to kiss,
A little boy to send to school for never a day dare he miss.
I wish there were little boys to beg cookies, raisins and pie.
I wish my donuts would travel off the pantry shelf on the sly.

But the days of these little tasks are gone
The days of such care oppressed
There is a heartache that only parents can know.
A longing that is never guessed when loving hearts is young manhood glow or planning for mother to rest
No thought of the memories of olden time
Have my boys grown so big and strong
Memories that come like sweet chime of the time when life was a song.
They know not the hours that sometime were spent
They guess not they are grown up boys
That mother is silently looking over a boy or their worn out toys.
And you can’t blame me and wonder
Instead if I long for the years to turn back again
When those men were just little boys.

Drew this little spot illustration for a friend. Her grandmother wrote the poem and she wanted to frame the poem to give to her mother.

Dave's parents have been gone for over a month now and it does feel strange not to see them every week. We have been getting so nice pictures from Bulgaria and the kids are learning how to email letters to grandma and grandpa.

Have I mentioned how diffucult i find it to draw people while they are moving around? I always seem to distort their faces

A little Christmas gift I gave Dave's parents a few years back....every couple of years I have needed to go back and add a few new grandchildren. I intend on doing one for my side of the family someday. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. We had this one photographed and digitized for my brother & sister-in-laws this Christmas.

Started the year off on an uneasy foot...I seem to still be behind in all areas of my life this month...I hate feeling this way. It must be the winter blues or something, but I need to snap out of it soon or many areas of my life are going to implode.

Afterwards we played games, read the Christmas story from the Bible, and then all the kids opened their one gift. New pajamas for all! We too a picture of all the kids to send to grandma and grandpa. Oh what fun it is to spend Christmas with family." then on the opposite side I included a picture of all the kids in their pjs. :)

So after this emotionally charged (and very expensive) meeting with the doctor, we went to the next meeting with lots of questions. Dave pretty much tore into the doctor because he didn't like the attitude the doctor had with us when we were challenging his diagnosis of Alex. We are a little at a lose, on one hand this new med seems to really work wellfor Alex. But we do not like all the stigma crap that goes with it... The doc did have to admit that Alex isn't Bi-Polar but has a mild form of a "mood disorder". (Anyone that knows Alex knows that isn't Bi-Polar and is almost always a happy go lucky kid who is very sensitive to what others say).... Aurgh!! Dave and I are know discussing talking to a different doctor to compare what they think... on the other hand, I REALLY hate having to have him on meds, but I have seen how well he does in all aspects of his life when he is taking is meds....(I experimented this holiday break and took him off the meds to see what would happen...hmm...put him back on his regular schedule three days later.)

It has been a long month of drama and damage control...I don't think I am handling it all very well and am ready to throw in the towel. A bit concerned that if I open my trap it will just make matters worse. AUGH...being a parent is so damn hard at times.

I knew this day was coming up quickly, and have been preparing myself for the moment for months. I wasn't expecting this reaction from Hailey. Actually, her initial reaction was what I expected not the later...She is still being very affectionate with me. Quite unusual, even Dave has noticed the difference. I am not going to question it, rather enjoy every moment.
